How to cancel Netflix

First, find out who actually bills you

Netflix can be paid four different ways, and you can only cancel where the money leaves. Open netflix.com in a browser, sign in, click your profile picture, then Account. The Membership section names the payment method. It will say Netflix itself, Apple, Google Play, or a partner such as a TV or internet provider. Pick the matching section below.

Billed by Netflix directly

1. Sign in at netflix.com and open Account from your profile menu.
2. Under Membership, choose Cancel Membership.
3. Confirm on the next screen. Netflix shows the date your access ends.

You cannot cancel from inside the Netflix app on iPhone when Netflix bills you. The app sends you to the website for this step.

Billed through Apple

1. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
2. Tap Netflix, then Cancel Subscription.

Only long-standing accounts are still billed this way. If Netflix is not in that list, Apple is not the one charging you.

Billed through Google Play

1. Open the Play Store app or play.google.com, then your profile, then Payments & subscriptions.
2. Choose Subscriptions, tap Netflix, then Cancel subscription.

Billed through a TV or internet provider

If Netflix is bundled with a phone, TV, or broadband plan, the provider owns the billing. Cancel or change it in that provider's account settings or by contacting them. Netflix support cannot end a partner-billed membership for you.

What happens after you cancel

• You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Nothing stops immediately.
• Netflix does not refund the remainder of a month in most countries.
• Your profiles, list, and viewing history are kept for ten months, so restarting later picks up where you left off.
• Netflix sends a confirmation email. If it never arrives, check the Account page: a cancelled membership shows its end date there.

On the same Account page, Change plan lets you move to a cheaper tier. It is often the better move if the reason is price rather than not watching.
