How to cancel PlayStation Plus

How PlayStation Plus billing works

PlayStation Plus is always billed by Sony through the PlayStation account that bought it, so there is no Apple or Google Play route to worry about. Cancelling means turning off the renewal: the subscription stays active until the next payment date and simply isn't charged again. Only the account that pays can cancel, so if a family member set it up, they need to do this.

From any browser

1. Sign in to Account Management at playstation.com.
2. Select Subscription in the menu on the left.
3. Select Cancel Subscription next to PlayStation Plus.

On a PS5

1. Go to Settings → Users and Accounts → Account.
2. Open Payment and Subscriptions → Subscriptions → PlayStation Plus.
3. Select Cancel Subscription.

On a PS4

1. Open PlayStation Plus from the home screen, then Manage Membership.
2. Select Subscription, then Cancel Subscription.

The same screen is reachable through Settings → Account Management → Account Information → PlayStation Subscriptions.

In the PS App on your phone

1. Tap the PlayStation Store icon at the bottom.
2. Open the menu in the top right and choose Subscriptions Management.
3. Select Cancel below PlayStation Plus.

What happens after you cancel

• Every benefit keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for.
• After that, the monthly games you downloaded through the subscription stop being playable, and online multiplayer and cloud storage for saves end. Copy any saves you care about to the console or a USB drive before the end date.
• Games you bought at a PlayStation Plus discount, and any redeemed packs and avatars, are yours to keep.
• Payments already made are not refunded, with one exception: within 14 days of a charge you can ask Sony for a refund, reduced in proportion to the time you have used.
• To check it worked, open the same Subscription screen again. A cancelled subscription shows Reactivate Subscription instead of Cancel, and that button also lets you change your mind before the next payment date.

Drop a tier instead

PlayStation Plus comes in three tiers. If the price is the issue rather than online play, moving down to the Essential tier from the same Subscription screen keeps multiplayer and cloud saves for less; the change applies when the current period ends.
