Guide
How to cancel Spotify Premium
Start with who bills you
Spotify Premium can be paid to Spotify directly, through Apple, through Google Play, or as part of a phone or internet bundle. The cancel button lives wherever the money leaves. To find out, sign in at spotify.com in a browser, open your profile menu and choose Account. The plan section shows how you pay. Then follow the matching section below.
Paying Spotify directly
- Sign in at spotify.com and open Account from your profile menu.
- Open the section about your plan and choose Change plan.
- Scroll past the other plans to Cancel Premium, then confirm.
You cannot cancel inside the Spotify app on iPhone or Android when Spotify bills you. The app links you to the website for this step, which is by design rather than a bug.
Paying through Apple
- Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Spotify, then Cancel Subscription.
Only older accounts are still billed this way. If Spotify isn't in that list, Apple isn't charging you.
Paying through Google Play
- Open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions.
- Choose Subscriptions, tap Spotify, then Cancel subscription.
Bundled with a phone or internet plan
If Premium came with a mobile contract or a broadband package, that provider owns the billing. Change or cancel it in the provider's account settings or by contacting them. Spotify support cannot end a partner-billed plan.
Family and Duo plans
Only the person who manages the plan can cancel it, and cancelling ends Premium for everyone on it. If you are a member rather than the manager, ask the manager to remove you, or leave the plan from your own account page. Your account and playlists stay; only the Premium features go.
What happens after you cancel
- Premium continues until the end of the period you already paid for, then the account drops to Spotify Free. Nothing is deleted.
- Playlists, liked songs, followed artists and your listening history all stay. Downloaded music stops working offline once Free kicks in.
- Spotify does not refund the remainder of a billing period in most countries.
- If you cancel during a free trial, Premium still runs to the end of the trial and you are not charged.
- You get a confirmation email, and the Account page shows the date Premium ends. If neither appears, the cancellation did not go through.
Cheaper instead of gone
The same Change plan page offers Duo, Family and Student plans. If the reason for cancelling is price rather than use, switching often costs less than starting over later.
Tired of subscriptions renewing before you remember them?
Recurry keeps every price and renewal date in one place and reminds you the day before anything bills.
Free to download. One optional lifetime unlock, never a subscription.
Last checked September 2026. Spotify moves its menus around from time to time; if a step looks different, the Account page on spotify.com is always the place to start.
