How to cancel YouTube Premium

Check who bills you first

YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium are cancelled the same way, and where you do it depends on where you signed up. If you joined inside the YouTube app on an iPhone, Apple bills you. If the membership runs as a Google Play subscription, Google Play bills you. Everyone else pays YouTube directly. Open youtube.com/paid_memberships while signed in: your membership and its next billing date are listed there.

Paying YouTube directly, in a browser

1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships and sign in.
2. Click Manage membership, then Deactivate.
3. Click Continue to cancel, pick a reason, and click Next.
4. Click Yes, cancel.

This works in the browser on a phone too, which is the simplest route on an iPhone when Apple is not the one billing you.

Paying YouTube directly, in the Android app

1. Open YouTube, tap your profile picture, then Paid memberships.
2. Tap the membership you want to end, then Continue to cancel.
3. Pick a reason, tap Next, then Yes, cancel.

Paying through Apple

1. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
2. Tap YouTube, then Cancel Subscription, and confirm.

YouTube cannot cancel a membership that Apple bills. If YouTube isn't in that list, Apple isn't charging you.

Paying through Google Play

1. Open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions.
2. Choose Subscriptions, tap YouTube, then Cancel subscription.

Family plans

On a family plan only the family manager pays, so only the manager's account can cancel. Family members who sign in to their own account will not find a cancel option, because they have nothing to cancel.

What happens after you cancel

• Your benefits continue until the end of the billing period you already paid for.
• You are not charged again unless you subscribe again.
• When the period ends, ads return, and background play and offline downloads stop working. Your YouTube account, history and playlists are not affected.
• To check it worked, open youtube.com/paid_memberships again. The page shows whether the membership is still set to renew.

Pause or pay less instead

YouTube lets you pause a membership and resume it later. The offer usually appears right after you click Deactivate, before Continue to cancel. You can also switch to an annual plan, or to a family plan, which can work out cheaper than several individual memberships.
